Visual symptoms often linger
- 20-40% of people with brain injuries suffer from vision problems.
- Common symptoms post concussion/brain injury/stroke include: headaches, light sensitivity, diplopia, dizziness, motion sickness, blurred vision, visual midline shift, visual field defects/neglect, eye strain, trouble with depth perception.
- These symptoms affect a person’s quality of life because they will complain of sensitivity being in large crowded areas such as supermarkets or public areas. They tend to feel unsure of themselves in their environments and feel clumsy. They have difficulty reading for a standard amount of time, and find themselves not being able to remember what they read. They take longer to read than they were used to before the injury. They cannot easily track across the lines in text as easily as before.
- Vision therapy addresses these symptoms and complaints by retraining the visual system to recalibrate and work efficiently again.
